X is for Xylophone: Using Music in Your Homeschool

I love music and I've shared many of my favorite worship songs last fall with my 31 days of encouragement. Music can change your mood and attitude quite quickly and it does the same for children. Teachers have used music to help children remember facts and learn new things as well as for fun. When my oldest was in kindergarten at public school she came home singing how to spell color words.

Write Club: Guest Post by DL Hammons

First off, I’d like to thank Jacquie for the opportunity to talk to you today about something near and dear to my heart…WRiTE CLUB. My modest writing contest has proven so popular that the DFW Writers Conference is now considering incorporating it into their agenda for 2015.

For the newbies out there, let me explain what WRiTE CLUB is? It’s a modest writing competition whose inspiration was derived from the movie FIGHT CLUB. There are numerous versions of this concept around the internet, but nothing like we do it. Its essence embodies simple, good-natured competition, with lots and lots of fun sprinkled on top.

U is for Unit Study: An Introductory Guide

This goes along with the hands on learning I talked about in April. Unit studies are a lot of fun and can be used for fun fill in activities or the main part of your curriculum depending on what you do and how in depth you get with the topics. There are entire curricula based on unit studies and plenty of individual topic unit studies that are just a click away. I've included unit studies in my homeschooling creativity series because with these unit studies there's always extra activities, crafts or field trips that can be worked into them. They foster creativity in both you and your children as you are learning and enjoying it too.
