ABC's of Creativity in Your Homeschool: A is for Art!

 April is here and for many bloggers that means the fun of the April A-Z challenge! I'm joining in for the first time this year and I'm excited to get started! Each day this month (at least that's the plan) you'll find a post related to that days' letter. I thought it would be fun to do the ABC's of Homeschool Creativity! So you'll find fun ideas for being creative in your homeschool.

So today is A. What a better way to start the creativity in your homeschool than with A is for ART! I know for me, art projects are one of those things that get pushed aside when life gets crazy. I want to encourage you though to incorporate art whenever you can.

Art can be as simple as drawing a picture of what you read in science or as involved as making your own pinata. Encourage your children to be creative by having art supplies readily handy. Some ideas to get you started.

• Construction paper
• Pencils
• Crayons/markers and colored pencils
• Scissor (for older ones who know how to use them properly) 
• Glue sticks
• White printer paper
• Pipe cleaners
• Buttons
• Tissue paper
• Toilet paper tubes
• Pipe cleaners
• Paints (if you're really brave!) 

Lots and lots of others can be included here. In our living room we have 2 sets of Rubbermaid drawers  with casters that we keep a LOT of stuff in! I'd like to say they are perfectly organized but try as I might, they get disorganized fairly quickly! Here's a picture from when we were living in our apartment. The drawers no longer have the kiddos' names on them but are now mostly craft drawers with one for activities the younger ones can pull out and work on independently. 

If you aren't the spontaneous arts and crafts type (it depends on the situation for me) there are lots of great books out there! One we enjoyed was Discovering Great Artists which lets kids mimic the artistic styles of many of the world's famous artists from ancient history to modern artists. This year we are enjoying Global Art with our study of cultures of the world. We've (tried) making a pinata when we studied Mexico and made African drums when learning about Kenya. Each continent is covered with plenty of deas for each. A popular book I've heard a lot about that we will be using for our next school year is Drawing With Children. There are numerous others that
