Empowered

Welcome back to the Proverbs 31 blog hop at My Blessings Homeschool! This week has been amazing! The word chosen by the Proverbs 31 Bible study ladies is perfect. Empowered is a great word to sum up this first week.

At the beginning of January I started reading a book called Sugar Detox Challenge. I've been addicted to sugar for ages. I'd crave it all day long basically and gave into it almost every time. That little book i started reading gradually changed the way you eat. Well last week was week 3 and ALL desserts and sweet treats were cut out. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. The first three days were THE hardest. But by Saturday, it was getting easier. And now I sit here a week later and I feel completely empowered! I CAN DO THIS!

Having read the first few chapters of the Made to Crave Bible study I wish I'd had read those BEFORE I started my sugar detox! The verses I've now been equipped with would have made me feel empowered at the beginning of my no sugar week instead of struggling through those first three days.

Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.~1Corinthians 10;23

My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord, my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.~Psalm 84:2

Those two verses are very empowering to me! We think all the time, "I'm allowebod to do this, nobody says I can't!" Just because we're "allowed" God points out right in His word for us that it may not be beneficial to us. After reading chapter one of Made to Crave I came to a realization. Yes, I was "allowed" to consume sugar and other junk on a regular basis but that's not beneficial to my body! The Bible tells us that our bodies are God's temple

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.~1Corinthians 6:19-20

If I'm putting all of that junk into my body, I'm not taking proper care of God's temple!

Reading chapter two I felt like she was in my mind. Making excuses for my poor choices, rationalizing, saying i'll start another day. It's gone on and on for years now. Never did I think to turn to God to help me. Maybe every now and then I'd talk to God about it. But I never thought to continuously seek Him and talk to Him whenever I craved unhealthy foods!

Even this past week when I cut out all sweets, i maybe thought to pray to God once or twice for help. I could have been turning to Him each and every time! Boy did I miss out on a lot of opportunities to talk to my best friend, comforter and Father!

I'm so glad I decided to go on this Made to Crave journey! Just these first two chapters have completely changed the way i think about changing my lifestyle! I feel empowered and now equipped that I can change the unhealthy cycle I've been trapped in since childhood. I'm empowered to choose God over food and to turn to Him when i'm craving other things. i'm empowered to make healthier choices and know that I will be tempted but I now have God's word and prayer to turn to when I am temped by "permissible but not beneficial" choices.
